Dr. Brent Paterline grew up in Winchester, Virginia, located outside of D.C. He received a Bachelor’s degree from Randolph-Macon College in 1989. After college, he served as a military police officer in the first Gulf War. While in the Army, he obtained master’s degree in sociology from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.

He then moved to Atlanta and worked for the Center of Disease Control and obtained a Ph.D. in sociology from Georgia State University in 1997. In 1997, Dr. Paterline took a job as a professor of criminal justice at the University of North Georgia and has been there ever since.  He also regularly conducts criminal case analysis with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) and does consulting work for several District Attorney’s offices in the Atlanta metro area.  His primary research areas include drug investigation, homicide investigation, forensic interviewing, and sex crimes.

Dr. Paterline currently lives with his wife and two sons. In his spare time, he likes to play tennis, fish, and watch sporting events, especially pro and college football. He is a Falcon’s season ticket holder.
