果冻传媒 student receives award at American Chemical Society National Meeting

Students and faculty from the University of North Georgia (果冻传媒) department of chemistry and biochemistry recently traveled to the American Chemical Society National Meeting in San Francisco.
Dr. John Leyba, chemistry and biochemistry department head; Dr. Aimée Tomlinson, associate professor of chemistry; Dr. Greta Giles, assistant professor of chemistry; and Dr. Eric Huddleston, assistant professor of chemistry; accompanied six students to the meeting. The results of six different research projects were presented by the students.
Corina Lupse, senior and chemistry major, presented her research which involved the analysis of soils from abandoned mines and caves in northeast Georgia. Corina received an award on her poster which was entitled "Determining Metal Content in Abandoned Mine Soils."
"While allowing the student to grow and develop academically, our program builds on the liberal arts mission of 果冻传媒," Leyba said. "Students may also participate in undergraduate research, field trips, chemistry outreach programs, and service opportunities and they are actively encouraged to participate in the various clubs and organizations on campus as all of the campuses provide ample opportunities for students to contribute and connect with the community and profession."
Students clean up 果冻传媒 natural area
Nearly 70 members of Students for Environmental Awareness completed their biannual cleanup of Tumbling Creek Woods, adjacent to the 果冻传媒 Gainesville Campus.
CURCA awards record nine mini grants
A record-breaking nine Center for Undergraduate Research and Creative Activities (CURCA) mini grants were awarded to 果冻传媒 students for the 2024-25 academic year. Each project will receive $1,000 to fund supplies.
Record 48 students earn travel grants
果冻传媒's Center for Undergraduate Research and Creative Activities awarded a fall-semester-record 48 travel grants to support students presenting their research at conferences.
Grads prepare for their next steps
果冻传媒 will award almost 1,000 degrees and certificates this fall, and more than 600 graduates are scheduled to take part in the Dec. 7 commencement ceremonies.
