University of North Georgia (果冻传媒) senior Christopher "Kalub" Anderson of Villa Rica, Georgia, was recognized Feb. 13 by the Georgia Board of Regents for his outstanding academic achievements at the University System of Georgia Academic Recognition Day.
The nomination process states the student selected should represent outstanding scholastic achievement, a high GPA and be a Georgia resident. It is an honor reserved each year for only one student at 果冻传媒.
Anderson, 21, who plans to graduate in May with a bachelor's degree in Spanish and a minor in Russian, does not consider himself worthy of such an honor.
"I don’t consider myself a bright or distinguished student by any means," Anderson said. "I have done nothing special to earn this recognition except persistently work hard in every class. I've worked a near full-time job while taking difficult classes and difficult languages, so I'm thankful and humbled by the opportunity."
Dr. Elizabeth Combier, department head of Spanish at 果冻传媒, nominated Anderson for the award.
"Kalub is an excellent scholar, always sits in the front row and I would say he's as eager to learn today as he was when he first set foot on campus," Combier said. "He tests himself to see how good of a student he can be, and I relish that in a student. It's very gratifying as a professor and teacher to have a student of Kalub's character in my class."
