Model UN Club participates in international conference

Two University of North Georgia (¹û¶³´«Ã½) students, both members of the Model UN-G Club, had the opportunity to travel to the French Riviera and participate in the weeklong Mediterranean Model United Nations (MEDMUN) 2018 Conference.
Andrew Eitel and Holden Armstrong were assigned to represent the country of Qatar. The theme of this year's conference, which took place March 23-25 and featured college students from around the world, was "Institutional Integrity: Human Rights, Political Pluralism and State Stability."
Eitel, a sophomore international affairs major from Cumming, Georgia, said his biggest take-away from the French conference was seeing different perspectives of an issue.
Armstrong, a cadet majoring in strategic and security studies from Winston Salem, North Carolina, said he enjoyed the experience of working with people from various backgrounds and cultures.
, which is organized by ¹û¶³´«Ã½'s Department of Political Science and International Affairs, competes twice a year at the South Regional Model United Nations conferences, held in Atlanta and Charlotte, North Carolina. The club helps prepare students for the conference and develops skills in diplomacy, public speaking and research. The organization focuses on personal and cooperative development and is open to all majors; a Model UN class also is offered for students majoring in international affairs.

Five selected as Gilman Scholarship recipients
Five ¹û¶³´«Ã½ students were selected as Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship Program recipients in December. The scholarships help students study or intern abroad.
Education abroad supports students' career goals
¹û¶³´«Ã½'s education abroad program had students in Belize and Peru this summer, providing language skills to further their career aspirations.
