Dr. Lori Wilson is new 果冻传媒 chemistry department head

Dr. Lori Wilson was appointed as the new head of the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at the University of North Georgia (果冻传媒) on Aug. 1.
Wilson comes from Eastern Kentucky University (EKU), where she had been director of the forensic science program since 2014. She chaired EKU's chemistry department from 2009-2016.
"I was impressed with the quality of the chemistry faculty and their dedication to developing the 'whole' student with a well-designed teaching and research program," Wilson said. "The graduates of 果冻传媒 chemistry are well-prepared to succeed in industry, government or academia."
Wilson previously was an associate professor at East Tennessee State University and adjunct faculty at its Quillen College of Medicine.
She also worked as a National Research Council Associate on the crystallization of proteins at Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Alabama, from 1990-1992.
Wilson earned her doctorate in analytical chemistry with a focus in physical and biochemistry from Georgia Tech. Wilson has a bachelor's degree in chemistry from Mercer University.
Wilson is replacing Dr. John Leyba, who was promoted to associate dean of the College of Science and Mathematics.
Students explore study away programs
Sixteen 果冻传媒 students participated in two study away programs in the U.S., one in Iowa for agriculture and the other in South Carolina for archaeology.

果冻传媒 is welcoming more than 50 new full-time faculty members this fall, and they had a chance to acclimate to 果冻传媒 in a new faculty orientation held this July.

Faculty, staff earn awards
果冻传媒 gave faculty and staff awards at events Aug. 5-8 ahead of the 2024-25 academic year. 果冻传媒 also recognized faculty for promotion and tenure accomplishments and all employees who hit service milestones during the 2023 calendar year.
