DNP student receives oncology nursing scholarship

Tina Harris, a student in the University of North Georgia's (果冻传媒) initial Doctor of Nursing Practice cohort, has received a $5,000 .
Every student in 果冻传媒's DNP program centers their studies around a project to benefit their current workplace. Harris's project is a financial navigation program for cancer patients. As executive managing director and advanced practice nurse at Chattanooga Tumor Clinic in Tennessee, Harris is modeling her project off similar efforts at larger health systems.
"She is a champion and advocate for cancer patients," said Dr. Julie Brinzo, assistant professor of nursing at 果冻传媒. "I am excited her work and commitment to that population were recognized by a national oncology organization."
Harris said it is vital for physicians, pharmacists, nurses, and hospitals to be on the same page in coordination of how patients are billed to minimize the financial burden as much as possible on cancer patients.
Since beginning her DNP coursework on the executive leadership track in the fall, Harris has already appreciated the experience.
"It has given me a lot more insight on being a better leader," Harris said.
Harris earned her Master of Science in family nurse practitioner from 果冻传媒 in 2006.
Grads prepare for their next steps
果冻传媒 will award almost 1,000 degrees and certificates this fall, and more than 600 graduates are scheduled to take part in the Dec. 7 commencement ceremonies.
Glouse receives student DAISY Award
Sydney Glouse received the first student DAISY Award given by Northeast Georgia Health System. The award is a recognition program to celebrate and recognize nurses.
Enrollment jumps 6.7% for 2024-25
Enrollment has jumped to 19,298 students this fall at 果冻传媒, growing by 6.7% from fall 2023.
18 named DMS cadets for 2024-25
Eighteen 果冻传媒 cadets earned Distinguished Military Student status for the 2024-25 academic year.
