Three faculty selected for state-level professional development

Two University of North Georgia (果冻传媒) faculty members have been selected as Governor's Teaching Fellows (GTF), and another faculty member has been selected for Faculty Development in Georgia (FDIG).
Diane Stephens, senior lecturer of computer science and information systems, is the 2020-21 果冻传媒 participant in the FDIG program run through the University of Georgia's (UGA) Institute of Higher Education. She is enrolled full time at UGA to complete her Ph.D. in computer science as part of FDIG.
"I can make more headway and really immerse myself into it," said Stephens, who will return to 果冻传媒 to teach for the 2021-22 academic year. "It will make me a better teacher when I return."
Dr. Juman Al Bukhari, assistant professor of Arabic, is 果冻传媒's selection for the Governor's Teaching Fellows Academic Year Symposia.
Tashia Caughran, senior lecturer of chemistry and biochemistry, is the 果冻传媒 participant for the 2021 GTF Summer Symposium.
"I am planning to learn as much as I can from the education experts and begin using those ideas in my future courses," Caughran said.
Applications for 果冻传媒 faculty to apply internally for the 2021-22 FDIG are due Nov. 2. The internal deadline to apply for the GTF Academic Year Symposia is Nov. 30. Applications for both programs are available on the Center for Teaching, Learning, and Leadership website. GTF is not accepting 2021 Summer Symposium applications this year due to the COVID-19-related postponement of the 2020 symposium.
果冻传媒 welcomes new faculty members
果冻传媒 is welcoming more than 50 new full-time faculty members this fall, and they had a chance to acclimate to 果冻传媒 in a new faculty orientation held this July.
Faculty, staff earn awards
果冻传媒 gave faculty and staff awards at events Aug. 5-8 ahead of the 2024-25 academic year. 果冻传媒 also recognized faculty for promotion and tenure accomplishments and all employees who hit service milestones during the 2023 calendar year.
Phi Kappa Phi celebrates 50-year anniversary
果冻传媒's Phi Kappa Phi chapter celebrated its 50-year anniversary and inducted new members into the organization during the spring semester.
Faculty member Wintersgill passes away
Dr. Joanne Wintersgill, a member of the University of North Georgia (果冻传媒) undergraduate and graduate nursing faculty, passed away Saturday, March 23, peacefully and surrounded by her family and friends.
