Professional Licensure and Certification Information for Criminal Justice Degree Programs

The University of North Georgia offers degree programs that fulfill the educational requirements for students to apply for professional licensure or certification in Georgia. However, these programs may not meet the education requirements in other states.

Educational requirements vary by state or certification board, and there may be additional requirements that must be met. Students are encouraged to reach out to the program coordinator and the relevant licensing entity for further information and guidance.

Professional Licensure or Certification Disclosure

Criminal Justice (B.S.) with P.O.S.T. Certification
Criminal Justice Major with Forensics Concentration (B.S.) and P.O.S.T. Certificate

The Department of Criminal Justice’s Public Safety Academy (PSA) provides Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Training Council (P.O.S.T.) basic law enforcement certification to students who declare a major in criminal justice and meet all P.O.S.T. mandates and requirements for acceptance into the P.O.S.T. program from the baccalaureate program.

Certification requirements are met

Upon successful completion the program, University of North Georgia graduates will have met all educational requirements and have P.O.S.T. certification in Georgia.

Certification requirements are not met

The University of North Georgia criminal justice curriculum does not satisfy the educational requirements in the following states, U.S. territories, and District of Columbia.

  • American Samoa
  • West Virginia
  • CNMI
  • Guam
  • Iowa
  • Puerto Rico
  • Kansas
  • U.S. Virgin Islands
