Overview

Dr. Linda Reece is an associate professor in the department of Social Foundations and Leadership Education (SFLE) in the College of Education at the University of North Georgia.  She earned her PhD in Social Science Education with emphases in American history and European intellectual history from the University of Georgia.  She completed her M.S. in Community Counseling from Columbus State University and her B.S. from Peabody College of Vanderbilt University.

Dr. Reece has taught social studies and gifted education in elementary and middle grades. She also worked as a high school counselor, specializing in supporting students with academic and mental health needs.

Research and program development projects Dr. Reece has been part of include: pilot program for the Professional Development School model of teacher education (NGCSU 2008-2010); ESOL (English for Teachers of Other Languages) instructor and program coordinator; and community partnership with the HUB at Gainesville High School.

Dr. Reece is certified as a Mental Health First Aid trainer and she provides certification  to pre-education students. Dr. Reece’s work in mental health training for teachers includes training high school CTAE faculty and high school education pathways students in becoming mental health first responders.

Research pursuits include: training teachers to respond to student mental health issues; creating trauma sensitive classrooms; and self-care and wellness.
