Sigma Tau Delta

Alpha Upsilon Phi Chapter (Gainesville)

Chartered in Fall 2014, the Gainesville campus chapter of Sigma Tau Delta International English Honor Society has quickly become a vital component of the English Department at 果冻传媒. This dynamic organization offers students access to scholarships, conference presentations, leadership positions, and service opportunities, and our members have taken advantage of all these things. While there is an undoubted prestige to membership, our chapter prides itself in enriching the department and campus communities: all are welcome.

Our chapter has an active calendar including inductions, workshops, and social events in both fall and spring. We host a literary studies conference in October, welcoming presenters from across our geographic region, a Groundhog Day Trivia Challenge in February, and a perpetual book drive. Our big event each spring is traveling to the international convention, where our members present papers, attend leadership sessions, listen to compelling guest speakers, and engage in conversation with like-minded lovers of literature. We also maintain two Little Free Libraries on the Gainesville campus and regularly volunteer for Books for Keeps in Athens.

Students of all majors are eligible for membership as long as they meet the following requirements:

  • 3.0 overall and in English classes
  • completed at least two English classes beyond ENGL 1102
  • completed at least three semesters of college work
  • currently enrolled in a baccalaureate degree program
