Day-Of Presentation Information

Choose one of the four presentation formats as outlined below. Should you have any questions or require additional equipment, email honors@ung.edu

Oral Presentations

Oral presentations may cover research on any topic. Oral presentations should be no more than 15 minutes long to allow the audience time to ask questions. As you prepare your presentation, remember that GCHC is multi-disciplinary; thus, we encourage you to explain jargon as best you can, as your audience may not know your discipline as well as you do. Computer, projector, and sound will be available. To avoid technical difficulties, we recommend you save your presentation or PowerPoint in a portable and easily accessible format, such as a USB flash drive.

Poster Presentations

Poster presentations may also be on any research topic. Posters should be printed in advance of the conference. The recommended maximum size for posters is 36" (height) x 48" (width). ¹û¶³´«Ã½ will supply poster stands and ways to affix your poster to the stand; you just bring the poster! Presenters should be available during their poster session to discuss their research.

Performance Presentations

Performance presentations may include drama, dance, music, or any other kind of live performance. Performances may also be up to 15 minutes long. Students submitting a performance presentation should include information about the amount of space needed for their presentation. Students will be expected to provide or arrange for any equipment or props needed for their performance.

Visual Presentations

Visual presentations may include film, photography, artwork, or other creations. Students submitting a visual presentation should include information about the equipment or space needed for viewing it.

GCHC Registration and Deadlines

GCHC regular registration is $80 for student presenters and $95 for faculty/staff, plus fees. Registration will be open through February 9, 2024 at midnight. After February 9, 2024, registration prices will increase by $15.

GCHC Membership

Note that students who present at GCHC must be members of a college or university that has institutional membership in the Georgia Collegiate Honors Council. Annual institutional membership is $50. Membership renewals are sent out annually via email in the fall.

We have several locations in and around downtown Dahlonega, GA, that have special rates reserved for GCHC 2024 attendees. The information provided below includes room rates and deadline dates to book at the special price. Please keep in mind the cut-off dates for each hotel below.

If you are booking by phone, please mention you’re attending the Georgia Collegiate Honors Conference and ask for the rates below. The arrival and departure dates are February 23 and February 24.

The conference will kick off on the evening of Friday, February 23, 2024 with a keynote speaker and welcome reception. On Saturday, February 24, we will host student presentations throughout the morning and early afternoon with a break at 11:30 for our awards lunch and GCHC Business meeting. Keynote and Welcome Reception: Friday, February 23, 2024

To celebrate our Appalachian history, we are pleased to welcome Dr. Jamie Myers Mize as our keynote speaker. Dr. Mize is a historian of American Indians of the Southeastern United States. She received her BA in history from Truett-McConnell University, her MA from the University of North Georgia, and her Ph.D. degree from the University of North Carolina-Greensboro. Her research focuses on Cherokee masculinity and how gender expectations informed men’s political decisions in response to the pressures of colonialism. She teaches courses on American Indian history, the history of global Indigenous peoples, and colonial and early American history.

After the keynote, students will be treated to some old-time string band music courtesy of the during our reception. The band is made up of students and faculty of the University of North Georgia who play mandolin, banjo, ukelele, fiddle, and more! Relax to their local sound as you connect with other researchers from around the state.

The Georgia Collegiate Honors Council (GCHC) is an organization formed for the promotion and advancement of honors education in institutions of higher learning in the state of Georgia.

Colleges and universities offering honors programming or having an interest in offering honors work are eligible for institutional membership. Memberships in GCHC may also be held by other institutions, such as foundations or educational organizations, with an interest in honors education.

Each year, GCHC hosts its annual conference at a selected college or university in Georgia. ¹û¶³´«Ã½ welcomes the conference Back to Appalachia in 2024.
