Registration and Breakfast

Upon arriving, you will complete your registration, receive name tags, and be given last minute updates. Be prepared to identify students in groups of four to work as teams during the afternoon competition. Then, enjoy the coffee and donuts.

Take time to relax, visit with other competitors, and give last minute instructions to your team members while you wait for the games to begin.

Individual Competition

The morning competition is a 90 minute multiple choice calculus exam. Calculators are not allowed in this part of the tournament. Individual money prizes along with plaques are given to the students that have the top three scores from the morning competition.

Sponsors' Meeting

Unfortunately, sponsors are not allowed to observe their students during the morning competition. While students are working on the test for the morning competition, sponsors will have an opportunity to meet together for an informal discussion of current issues. Topics from past discussions include content for college algebra, the semester system, and laboratories. You may put in your two cents worth or just listen. You can give it your full attention or tune in every now and then as you grade papers or work on lesson plans. Yes! Some sponsors actually bring work to do. We will dismiss as soon as the students start finishing the morning exam so you can spend some time finding out how your teams have survived the first round of competition.

Team Pictures

Before you go to lunch, please stop by the announced location to have team pictures made. Copies of the pictures will be sent to the sponsors after the tournament.

Lunch & Presentation

Lunch will be provided. The cost is included in the registration fee. Please let us know if you have any dietary restrictions and we will do our best to have an acceptable meal for you. Sponsors eat for free! A presenter will give a 15-minute short talk on some subject accessible to the sophomore level participants.

Team Competition

The afternoon competition has approximately ten rounds, where teams have up to ten minutes to solve one or more problems. Afternoon problems include questions from algebra, trigonometry, statistics, logic and calculus. One or two, (depending on the number of teams) calculators per team will be provided for this part of the competition. Contestants may not use their own personal calculators. The morning individual scores are not included in the afternoon total team scores. At the end of the afternoon competition, each winning team member from the top three teams receives an Olympic style medal at the awards ceremony and a gift certificate.

Tie Breakers

If there is a tie from the morning or afternoon competition, a tie breaker question will be administered by the test administrator after the afternoon competition is over.

Awards Ceremony

During the awards ceremony, presentations are made by an academic officer of the University of North Georgia. The individual winners of the morning competition are announced and presented with an engraved plaque. The individual winners will receive a check by mail. Then the top three teams are announced and each winning team member is draped with an Olympic style engraved medal. Next, the awards for the overall competition are presented. Each winning college/university is presented with a trophy.
