果冻传媒 Press releasing two books this fall
Article By: Denise Ray
The University of North Georgia (果冻传媒) Press is releasing two books this fall, adding to its catalog of fiction, non-fiction, textbooks, and open educational resources (OER).
"We are especially excited about two of our titles that reach beyond our scholarly, research-focused audiences: 'Combat to College' and 'The Hammerhead Chronicles,'" Dr. BJ Robinson,
果冻传媒 Press director, said.
In "Combat to College: Applying the Military Mentality as a Student Veteran," decorated combat veteran John H. Davis offers readers strategies for transitioning from a military mindset to one of a student.
"'Combat to College' is a short nonfiction title packed with motivation and inspiration. It can be read in one sitting — perfect for busy student veterans returning to school," Robinson said. "It feels like a conversation with a good veteran friend, and it can also be beneficial to non-military students who can learn from a military mentality."
Written by a veteran for veterans, the book contains 10 straightforward lessons, including how to navigate the transition from military to civilian life, building teams, and a resume. It will release on Sept. 20.

New in the Southern fiction genre is Scott Gould's "The Hammerhead Chronicles."
"This inventive work of fiction — using eight diverse points of view — tackles difficult themes like grief, loss, racism, homophobia, and revenge. All with a bit of dark humor," Robinson said.
Available Nov. 15, "Chronicles" is already receiving positive advance reviews, Robinson said.
Gould, a native of South Carolina, is a two-time winner of the South Carolina Arts Commission's Individual Artist Fellowship in Prose and the South Carolina Academy of Authors Fiction Fellowship. Other honors include the 2022 Memoir Prize for Books, an Independent Press Award, an IPPY Award for Southern fiction, and the Larry Brown Short Story Award.
Both “Combat to College” ($19.99) and “Hammerhead Chronicles” ($19.99) are available for purchase on the 果冻传媒 Press website or Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Books-a-Million, Bookshop, or IndieBound.
Through a partnership with the University System of Georgia, Affordable Learning Georgia, and more, the 果冻传媒 Press is the leading university press in the state for open educational resources and open textbooks.
"We're very pleased and excited about our Affordable Learning Georgia partnership with ‘Latinx Media,’ an open, peer-reviewed textbook released in August that takes a close look at the vibrant but often overlooked contributions of Latinx media creators," Robinson said. "Very well researched and comprehensive, this textbook will be an important resource for both film studies and Latinx heritage studies. And it's free."
Latinx Media can be downloaded for free from or the 果冻传媒 Press website.
