Faculty Academy on Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL)

About SoTL

The SoTL Academy is a three-semester series of meetings and shared learning. These meetings will create community and provide structure to support faculty pursuing the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning. Academy members will participate in meetings from August 2024 through January 2026. By the end of the academy, participants will have designed and implemented a research project, and will be prepared for presentation or publication.

The SoTL Academy is open to full-time faculty and teaching staff. The Academy will facilitate participants’:

  • exploration of current SoTL scholarship,
  • development of a research question and research techniques,
  • knowledge and application of the steps in a research project,
  • opportunity to learn from other practitioners, and plan for dissemination.

The SoTL Academy will foster a common cultural dialogue of research-based teaching practices across campuses and academic domains. Participants will work together to refine research questions and methodologies. Participants will develop quantitative and/or qualitative measures to analyze pedagogical practices, leading to a better understanding of how to affect student success and well-being. SoTL’s implicit emphasis on the public sharing of results will support growing faculty dialogue about scholarly teaching and student engagement. The Academy will provide the University of North Georgia (¹û¶³´«Ã½) faculty and teaching staff an opportunity for ongoing professional development and a growing community of fellow practitioners of SoTL, ultimately fostering excellence in research, teaching, and learning.

The SoTL and HIP Academies occur on a rotating basis.
