Transfer Student Admission Requirements and Application Procedures

You can apply as a transfer student if....

you have graduated from high school or have a GED and have taken a college course after high school that transfers to ��ý; AND
you have not already earned a bachelor's degree OR you are pursuing a second bachelor's degree.
Meeting minimum requirements does not guarantee acceptance.

Requirements
If you have less than 30 transferable semester hours of college credit complete (not including technical level courses), and you graduated high school less than five years from the start of your intended semester of enrollment, then you must also meet the new Cadet freshman admissions requirements.

If you graduated high school more than five years from the start of your intended semester of enrollment, and you have fewer than 30 semester hours of transferable college coursework (not including technical level courses), you should refer to the admissions requirements and application process for non-traditional adult learners.

Students whose secondary education was completed outside the United States system of education must also meet English Proficiency Requirements.

Bachelor's Degree Applicants

Competitive applicants should have at least a 2.5 transferable/overall GPA and a minimum of 30 hours of transferable coursework not including learning support courses. Meeting minimum requirements does not guarantee acceptance.

To be competitive, applicants should have completed:

A course equivalent to our ENGL 1101 OR 1102 (English Composition I and II) with grades of "C" or better.

A course equivalent to our MATH 1101 (Intro to Mathematical Models), MATH 1111 (College Algebra), MATH 1113 (Pre-calculus) or MATH 2450 (Calculus I) with a grade of “D” or better.

Bachelor's Degree Applicants: To be considered for admission, applicants must have at least a 2.25 transferable/overall GPA. Competitive applicants should have at least a 2.5 transferable GPA.

Students may be screened for learning support requirements with Accuplacer testing based on standardized test scores or transferable college credit.

We must receive the transcripts through e-script, Parchment, National Student Clearinghouse or another secure transcript delivery service directly from the institutions: choose Admissions Imaging Center or use transcripts@ung.edu as the intended recipient.

Credit for Courses Previously Taken

You should not assume that you will receive credit for all courses you took at your previous institutions. Transfer credit is determined by us on a course-by-case basis. Learn more about transfer credit.

If You Were Internationally Educated

Your transcripts must have a foreign course-by-course credential evaluation by an independent evaluation service that is a member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services, Inc. (NACES) or Association of International Credential Evaluators, Inc. (AICE).

The evaluation must be sent directly from the agency to the ��ý Admissions Office.

If you have less than 30 completed transferable college credit hours and you graduated from high school (or would have graduated) less than 5 years ago, we will also need official SAT or ACT scores.

Bachelor's Degree Minimums

SAT Minimums: 480 Evidence-Based Reading & Writing and 440 Math

ACT Minimums: 17 English or Reading and 17 Math

Admission to a bachelor's degree program is selective, and meeting minimum scores does not guarantee acceptance.

Note: Test score requirements are waived for applicants applying through summer 2025. If you graduated high school five or fewer years ago and are transferring with less than 30 semester hours, please see new freshman admission requirements.

Lawful Presence Documentation

Army Regulations require verified proof of lawful presence in order to participate in ROTC and the Corps of Cadets. Lawful presence will need to be provided prior to an admissions decision being made for Corps of Cadets participation. Students who cannot provide lawful presence may be admitted to the University of North Georgia, but not as a cadet. We cannot evaluate your application for admission until you have submitted a valid document for your verification of Lawful Presence Documentation.

Notes

Some bachelor's degree programs have additional requirements that you must complete before you can enroll in that major. Examples include Elementary & Special Education, Middle Grades, Secondary & Science Education, and Nursing. Please contact the academic department of your desired major to determine whether there are additional requirements. Admission to ��ý doesn't guarantee you admission to a specific major.

Transfer Course Credit

Transfer credit is usually awarded for courses that are designed to be part of an associate or bachelor's degree program and are completed with satisfactory grades in regionally accredited colleges. Such courses must generally correspond to the length, time and content of those offered in the curricula at the University of North Georgia.

Please note that this is not a complete list because it only includes courses that have transferred to the University of North Georgia in the past. If you still have questions after reviewing this page, please contact one of the admissions offices in the section below.

Note that you are required to earn a grade of "C" or better in English 1101 and 1102 (or equivalents) in order for these courses to transfer. Other courses earned at accredited institutions may transfer with grades of "D", to the extent that the grades on all credits accepted for transfer average at least 2.0. All "D" grades in core curriculum courses taken within the University System of Georgia are transferable, with the exception of English 1101 and 1102.

The Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy, Campus Crime Statistics Act and the Higher Education Opportunity Act of 2008 require higher education institutions to provide an that contain crime statistics and fire statistics for the three most recently completed calendar years, institutional policies or procedures for reporting crimes and current policies concerning the security of, and access to, campus facilities and residencies, as well as security considerations in the maintenance of campus facilities.
