I walked on the campus and I immediately
00:07
fell in love with the culture of not
00:10
only the core but also ung North Georgia
00:13
is a transformational experience the
00:15
bonds that you form here are bonds that
00:17
will last a lifetime
00:18
so coming in yeah you make friends out
00:21
the gate now I made eight friends just
00:23
dare frog green frog week stands for
00:25
freshmen and recruit orientation group
00:27
it's a six-day event just prior to
00:29
classes starting
00:30
which is really cadet basic training
00:31
it's definitely enlightening and
00:33
humbling at the same time you truly
00:36
start to understand how you're gonna
00:37
improve yourself in the core ung is the
00:41
most affordable senior military college
00:42
in the nation in fact all out-of-state
00:44
cadets get in-state tuition I've made a
00:47
lot of friends here at ung and I've met
00:50
people that I plan to have with me
00:52
throughout life I've made tons of
00:54
friends just by being involved I think
00:56
if you stay in your room for four years
00:58
you're not really gonna make the most
00:59
out of your time here and again I think
01:01
that's the best thing you could do here
01:02
as a student general well cadets can
01:04
obviously participate in any
01:06
organization or activity on campus but
01:08
there are some unique opportunities for
01:10
just cadets
01:11
those include the mountain or of Columbo
01:12
the aggressor platoon the Blue Ridge
01:14
rifles a golden eagle Band Ranger
01:16
Challenge team as well as a number of
01:17
other opportunities the Corps is
01:19
definitely given me a lot of discipline
01:21
and it's made me grow as both a leader
01:23
and as a person the Corps of Cadets
01:25
bases their leadership model off the
01:27
Army so cadets that come here they learn
01:30
about personal accountabilities and
01:31
doing the right thing and as they
01:33
progress on starting their sophomore
01:35
year that could lead up to ten fellow
01:36
cadets and then that continues to
01:38
increase the time they graduate our
01:40
brigade commander oversees 750 cadets
01:43
the core leadership that we have it's
01:45
great because again it just forces you
01:47
to be better than maybe you think you've
01:48
been capable of I think that's come in
01:50
here and you never think that they could
01:52
stand in front of 80 people give them
01:54
some type of direction you fast forward
01:56
4 years later
01:57
same kids who are in charge of 200 300
01:59
people at a time and doing it
02:01
effortlessly is extremely rewarding you
02:03
get to watch yourself and your peers
02:05
grow as individuals on multiple
02:07
occasions the University of North
02:09
Georgia received the coveted MacArthur
02:11
award recognizing it as the best senior
02:13
Military College in the nation do they
02:15
get a program you can actually go to
02:16
pathways in a salty in the commissioning
02:19
pathway having four years to train to
02:23
become a second lieutenant with such an
02:25
experience that truly builds you to come
02:28
a great officer I guess about to give
02:30
any advice to incoming cadets I would
02:32
just say you're not supposed to be
02:33
perfect when you come here we all look
02:34
for perfect cadets we look for cadets
02:36
who can essentially improve and be
02:38
better at than today than they were when
02:39
they got here cadets will absolutely not
02:41
forfeit their college experience by
02:43
coming to North Georgia in fact I would
02:45
say it's enhance you don't just make
02:46
friends here at ung I have family here
02:49
I've learned so much when this
02:51
organization made me a better person and
02:52
a better cadet and I know that'll make
02:54
me a better leader at the end of the day
